Grape variety
Gamay Merlot
Le Mirador PGI Côte du Lot is our well-aged red wine, produced from a blend of grape varieties originating from two of France’s most popular wine regions: Gamay from Burgundy and Merlot from Bordeaux. As with all our wines, the grapes are hand-picked and conveyed to the vat room in small crates. This harvest comes from two plots of vines summing 0.5 ha. The vines were planted in 1989 and thrive on siderolithic sands, ferruginous and fine-loamy siliceous clays: the Lot’s great terroirs!
Harvested by hand in September, we practice the whole berry fermentation using gravity. This vinification process allows for a gentle and progressive extraction by performing punchdowns and pumpovers. Kept at a temperature of 28 °C, vatting extends over 30 days. The wine is then raised in French oak barrels for 10 months, without added sulfites.
An imposing timber-built mirador erected on the highest point of the estate (236 meters) dominates the two plots from which this wine is produced, thus bearing its name.
