Domaine de Bonaguil Merlot rouge PGI Côte du Lot is a still wine, exclusively produced from a grape variety commonly grown in the Bordeaux region: Merlot. This wine is born from vines planted in 1989 in the heart of a plot of 0.7995 ha. The loam soil is composed of silty clay, rich in siliceous, and siderolithic sands— yet the typical soil composition for Malbec!
Harvested by hand in September, we practice the whole berry fermentation using gravity. This vinification process allows for a gentle and progressive extraction by performing punchdowns and pumpovers. Kept at a temperature of 28 °C, vatting extends over 30 days. The wine is then raised in heat-resistant stainless-steel tanks for 8 to 10 months. No sulphites are added into our wine. Although, during fermentation, the yeasts naturally produce traces of sulphite.
Domaine de Bonaguil Merlot rouge is complex, racy and juicy. In 2020, it won the Silver Medal of the Challenge Millésime Bio, the largest international organic wine competition.
